Warning for riding in NYC
This came from kawiforums.com so I figured Id share it hear as a heads up for those riding in or out of NYC....
Be careful this weekend while riding inside the NYC limits. There has been an order issued by the higher ups to profile motorcyclists. The police have been ordered to pull over any and all motorcyclists, REGARDLESS IF THEY HAVE COMMITTED A TRAFFIC OFFENSE! What they are riding doesn't matter. I was pulled over in the same area with an FZ6, A Harley 883 Sportster, an a BMW something or another. They are looking for the M endorsement on your license, valid registration and insurance, valid inspection sticker, and valid registration sticker on the plate. If you don't have the license, registration card, or insurance card with you, your bike WILL BE IMPOUNDED. No exceptions. An expired registration sticker or inspection sticker will get you a hefty ticket. And the NYPD is more than willing to tell you to your face that they have been issued orders to PROFILE (thier own words) motorcycles. Their excuse is that a huge number of bikers are running around without licenses, registration, or insurance, lane splitting, speeding, and that they're just trying to make the road safe for EVERYONE ELSE. Its all bullshit. Just be careful out there this weekend, and make sure you have your proper papers with you. Also, the registration sticker on your plate expires TOMORROW. If you don't have the new sticker on your bike, DON'T RIDE IT IN NYC STARTING APRIL 1 until you get it. I was pulled over twice today on my way to work, and both officers said the exact same thing when I questioned them why I was being pulled over. I had not committed any offenses, I was not speeding, I wasn't lane splitting, and my stickers are all valid. BC. |
It may seem like bullshit, but people will change their minds about it quickly after the NYPD starts recovering many more stolen bikes, or their stolen bike...and yes the guys that steal them do have the balls to ride them around often. If all your paperwork is in order and the bike's legal, you should have nothing to worry about.

Ummm....that's illegal and harrasment, reguardless of it's intent.

BTW its much easier to ride with a license than drive. You need a license to register a motor vehicle and get insurance. Not the case with bikes.
