GPS Units
Any thoughts on a reasonable priced GPS unit for my car and my bike?

many out there and there alot of people that are fans to like GARMIN and other popular brands, so it becomes choice and price... the rest is what they may do but at the end of the day we only use a couple of features..
http://www.navman.com/ i have them, i have used them for years, free upgrades when road patterns may change, flash card memory, so you may load up any state or country you want.. i have used it in florida during bike week ( great battery life) to get around some of the trips i do and have used it on my bike here when i find or get lost on a new road, i hit the mountains, get lost and just hit the home bottom!! and thats that!!! place it on the cradle for the car with car charger and im good to go!! good luck! its all about choice!! |
I have a TomTom Rider with the car mount. Pretty simple unit, works well, can't get traffic on it though which is annoying. Otherwise it's really good. 5 hours of battery life.

I have a TomTom One which is almost the same unit as the Rider. Its has soild basic NAV with a really good price. If you are looking for just Nav functions I would recommend TomTom, if you are looking to do more with it like geocaching or topo I would suggest a Garmin unit.
Oh on a side note TomTom runs linux and there is an open source project http://www.opentom.org Who knows what there guys will come up with for TomTom |

Motorcycle Consumer News did a comparison last month of four different GPS units. I dont have the mag here with me but I think the Garmin won.
Maybe you can find the article online. |

I have the MIO c310. Bought it for $180 on black friday. Seen them around still for around $199. Not a bad price. Gives me no troubles and hasn't got me lost yet.

I have one as well. You can get traffic but you have to pay for the service. My battery life is unlimited as I hard wired it. It also has bluetooth...i can talk on my cell if need be. Not that I advise doing that.:ohmygod: |
