Looking to buy the Metzler Racetech...but they come in different compounds...what compound would you recommend for a track day tire?

I don't know about the Metzlers but with the supercorsa I use a super soft front and a soft rear.

The parts club sells the soft/super soft as a set. Metzeler RACETEC K1, K2 120/180 Set.

+1 Metzeler has the same set up but instead of SC1 and 2 they use K1 and 2. Like Jimmy said, super soft front with a soft tushy :P

Has anyone done the buy a rear get a front free metzeler deal yet? I know Bob did and went well....So I guess I will be getting the K1 K2 set.

Just in case you havent figured it out yet. A supersoft front and soft rear works great!!! :nod2:

I picked up a rear K1 and the free K1 front,
the deal went through in about two weeks.

Be aware that no matter which rear tire you buy,
you get a "free" ($25 for shipping) K1 for the front.
You don't have any choice about it.

RaceTec's are available in 3 compounds:
K0 - "Supersoft"
K1 - "Soft"
K2 - "Medium"

Dragon SuperCorsa Pro's are available in 4 compounds:
SC0 - "UltraSoft"
SC1 - "Supersoft"
SC2 - "Soft"
SC3 - "Medium"

Thanks Rob I was really wondering which numbers meant what type of tyre.

As per http://www.getmetzeler.com/home.html

K1 = SuperSoft
K2 = Soft

I did the "FREE" front deal as well.... Like Rob said, it took about 2 weeks to get the tire.... I have been thinking about getting a second set, but not sure what the shelf life of these tires are....

Link to Metzler Site listing all 3 compounds:

http://www.us.metzelermoto.com/en_85...ductid%3D16164

Unfortunately, the site does not specify if all three
compounds are still available. The .pdf file that they
link to does not list the K0 compounds, as the site does.

I wouldn't worry about shelf life, as long as the tire
is no more than three years old.
The date codes on the two tires I received are:
2604 = 26th week of 2004 (Front)
4104 = 41st week of 2004 (Rear)
So they have been hanging around awhile.

After these I plan on trying Dunlops new "Qualifiers"
and the Michelin Power Race Mediums.

RonJ83 12-03-2005 11:05 PM

anyone use michelin power race? i was talkin to this guy over at r1 forum who rides a duc and he swears by them

Where do you see the description of the compounds? I see the 3 compounds listed, but is there somewhere that describes them? Cause on the free tire page link I listed it lists K1 and K2 with a description...K0 might be an ultrasoft? Am I missing something? :confused:
