Why I don't stunt

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching an organized stunt show at motorcycle gatherings,Those riders are very skilled for the most part, and with the proper mods to their bikes like larger rear sprockets and nerf bars, they are doing it the most correct way, but what annoys me is when people ask me to perform wheelies, stoppies, sitting on the tank, and standing on the seat.
It irritates me because: 1. My bike has no HP!
2. My bike is fairly heavy
3. I don't want to prematurely wear out the clutches
4. I don't want to crash
5. I don't have the "courage" to stunt
6. I like racing better
Just want to also say that it bothers me that every teen out on the street is impressed by a bike that does stunts. You know what would impress me? Seeing a sportbike do what those freesyle motocross guys do  . They have my utmost admiration :hail:

Also want to add, "I wish I had a bike with gobs of horsepower and suspension compliant to the most demanding roads so I can too enjoy riding on 1 wheel every once and awhile" :)

DougZ 08-21-2005 08:29 PM

Don't sweat it Benster.....stunting is not for everyone, and the people asking you to stunt, have no real idea what bikes, IMO, are truely made for. I'm like you, I like watching someone else stunt on their bikes, but its not for me. The occasional power wheelie is quite enough for me. :)

High_Revs_17 08-22-2005 12:13 AM

Whenever some punk kid gave me the wheelie sign with his arms I'd let go of the bars with my arms and hands posed in the same riding position and I'd pump them up and down in the air...I guess that's what he wanted.

Tonupboy 08-22-2005 09:35 AM

Yeah man, really, just ignore it. A lot of people who has NO CLUE about riding imitate what they see on TV - literally! So their perception of sportbike is - "Hey, he's a Biker Boy, so that means he must do wheelies!" These are also the same knuckleheads who goes out and buy/steal bikes just so they can up their "cool" factor...the real SQUIDS...when the trends fades, they all sell the bikes and move on to the next trend...you however, will continue to ride because you LOVE riding and that's all there is...

Ant 08-22-2005 09:56 AM

Well, you're prob. not going to want to hear this but I think that anyone who rides should at least be able to do a little wheelie. I'm not talking a 1/2 mile standup or anything but at least a little 1st gear sit down.

Islandmon 08-22-2005 12:38 PM

I don;t think my ancient 600 Katan can quite handle it unless I try to rip off the handlebars the same time I'm giving it some juice..I gets about 3 inches off the ground and that is it...If I take off the plastic I get 2 more inches....

I think I need a new bike ;)

If it has a clutch, it will wheelie.

Yeah, I can fully extend the forks and pull the front wheel up, but I don't like the idea of clutching it up. Is it easy to balance? how much room in front of me do I need? is it going to mess up my suspension/bearings if I drop it hard?

YES!

Don't let people talk you into anything. If you're not sure of yourself and you want to keep your bike in the same condition it's in now stay away from stunting. FYI, sportbikes aren't designed to handle this type of abuse day in and day out.

Of course, the MotoGP and pro racers don't bang the bike back down on the ground after ripping one.

Kennedy 08-23-2005 10:02 PM

I don't think you are completely one and comfortable with your bike if you cannot at least perform a small wheelie...what happens when your coming out of a corner and power it out...wheel comes up...you get nervous...into guard rail you go....

wheres that Biaggi video when i need it. Years ago when 2-strokes still ruled, Biaggi brought it up across the finish line and went well beyond the balance point, from the angle it looked like he went beyond vertical, anyone have this, great clip, luckily he saved it, but probably needed forkseals aftertwards.

opinion914 08-26-2005 08:24 AM

That's not extreme, that's just Max Biaggi doing his thing after the final lap of the 500cc MotoGP. GOTTA LUV IT!!!

I like watching it and think it was fun to do with cheaper bikes. But now with the price of bikes I just enjoy riding. Paying $9000 then mods I would rather keep the bike out of the repair shop. I have a lot of respect for the guys that stunt but it's not for me anymore.

soda7o 03-10-2006 12:48 PM

hopefuully i will learn how to this summer.. My bike is beggingin its stunt trasnformation this weekend..
beat up tank...
sprockets...
cage
beat up tail
fog light

ffejtable 03-10-2006 01:40 PM

Poor Ben has a Kat, I dont think you can power those up, its hard enough on my 01 zx6r. Would it be nice to wheelie? Sure.. Am I going to risk dropping the bike trying to learn? Heck no. Sure, I will "play" around and try to power it up, but I take it easy because I really dont want to drop it. I do have an old track bike I hope to play around with this summer to learn, but its really not a big deal if I can't or don't.

It is annoying to get the wheelie gestuer from everybody and their grandmother, and I doubt a single one of them rides. When I do learn I still wont do it at their request, as this only encourages their behavior...
