So here I am minding my bidness..

I get off the manhatten bridge to head home.. Get stuck behind some traffic and miss my left onto myrtle avenue.. So I take off, big black SUV in front of me, i accelerate up to the speed limit behind mr slow moving gas guzzler.. i have about 1.5 to 2 bike lengths of space behind him.. And all of a sudden a canyon shows up.

this bad mama jama was about 2' wide and about 2' deep. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I swerve like a madman. The front wheel goes in and pancakes the suspension. I think, oh yeah this is it im gonna slide accross the concrete like gritz do on a grittle. I slam the throttle and throw my body weight just about the same time the front pops out and the ass goes in. the ass pops out and i slide wildely accross the street (maybe throwing my weigh wasnt a good idea!). i back of the throttle and mr mean gsxr calms down, PHEW i thought. :drink:

:moocow: reality sets and and i'm like holy shit i just drove over the grand canyon. i slow down at a light and throw down my kickstand.. BAM huge bend in my rear, and a tiny one in the front.

http://smokeshit.net/~osb/02gsxr/rim/

An hour after the battle my tire is still holding air.. Is my rim junk?

Shall I try to beat it up with a 2x4 and a hammer?

Should i just buy a new one?

Gixxer wheels are a dime a dozen, I would just get another wheel, you chould get that one fixed, but may haunt you later one

SilverDragon 04-22-2007 12:17 PM

ouch! i feel your pain. I also would suggest getting a new one, your mind will be more at peace.

NYCSTRIPES 04-22-2007 01:16 PM

That doesn't look too bad to fix. I would also get another straight set off ebay or the sale forums. Then you can use these as spares.
NYC streets do suck though, especially in the springtime. Salt and ice damage shows up after spring rains. Weak sections just collapse after hard rain falls.
Filing a claim against the city only helps if the pothole was previously reported and more than 2 weeks has gone by without repair. FYI.

So file a pothole report and in 2 weeks..................... :)

Oh yes, those are totally repairable. Just ask Omar. He wouldnt even try and bang them out LOL. Seriously, get them straightened, np.

if the repair costs are close, or even 50% of the cost of a newer, used, rim.. ?
maybe i'll just snag one from ebay or cL

I think I found a 'normal wear and tear' black rim for my bike, I think the guy wants $100 for it. I think i'll pick it up next weekend.

Maybe i'll get these pilot power 2ct's put on eventually.
safe riding every1!
