A few friends have been trying to talk me into getting a dual sport... Well I broke down and got one of these... Yes, it's a Suzuki... Next week, pigs will fly and hell will freeze over...

Alot of fun stuff you can do with that. I would start with a 440 kit, MRD/SSW pipe, FCR 39 carb. That's should liven up the motor a good bit. I'm pretty sure that bike takes everything the 400sm does.

yeah, engine wise I am sure they are the same, the only major differences I would expect to be with suspension and wheels...
I dont plan on doing any work to the bike anytime soon, I think I am just going to start by riding it and trying not to break it too much ;) |

For the record, the thing has plenty of power for dual-sporting without tearing into the engine. Even a carb kit and cutting the air box lid will wake it up significantly. Slap some knobbies, rim locks, skid plate and radiator guards and get that thing dirty.

Well do some reading about how to ride the terrain you will be in. Big difference in riding in sand, hardpack, mud, water, snow. Having a little knowledge base under your belt will help your learning curve be less painful.... If I were new to dirt I would stay on the hard pack if possible until you get used to the back end sliding out and the differences in dirt braking compared to street. Street riders shit their pants when the ass gets happy on a bike and dirt riders smile and go WFO!
Also do a little reading about how to fall so that you don't break your wrist the first day out on the thing. Have fun! |
