Trailer Almost Complete
 

I am almost done with the trailer I bought from John. I replaced the floor with 3/4" PT plywood, I used 3/4" tongue & groove for the walls, installed the Strapless Transport Stands and tool box, mounting points for my spare wheels for the bike and trailer spare. I still have to do the front wall, shelving and install the the fridge and microwave.

My concern is having the bike(s) that far to the rear of the trailer. Un-weighting the tongue of the trailer can make problems while towing. You need more weight on the tongue of the trailer hitch in order to stabilize the ride. Otherwise its like having a see/saw with too much weight on the wrong end.

I would move the bike mounts forward unless you were planning to have some heavier things forward of the axle like tools and such. I would think that the bike(s) would be the heaviest items in the trailer though.

I like the setup and the wheel mounts on the door. I am working on doing something similar myself. I had my father fabricate some wheel holders as well. Hoping for some decent weather soon. Plenty to get done on the bikes and trailer before my first trip to the track.

I believe the sweet spot is just slightly forward of the axle.

Joe, sure you can put a sixxer in there but there might not be any left when you come back for them.

As far as the weight distribution in the trailer goes, the motor is directly above the axle of the trailer. The only thing that goes behind the axle is my ez up which goes behind the rear wheel of the bike across the width of the trailer. There is a big tool box on wheels mounted in the very front of the trailer along with spare wheels for the bike and trailer, gas cans, other supplies and camping gear during the warmer months. This set up worked like a charm to VIR a few weeks ago. The trailer pulls straight with no problems.

For the spare wheels I used the same set up as you but mounted them on the front left part of the trailer to keep the weight off the door. Has this had any effect on your door or have you had any problems with the mounting points getting ripped out of the door?

As far as the Strapless Transport Stands go, they are the shit. Very simple to use. The fit and finnish is great. I have three mounting plates installed and have two stands. In the pic shown up above I have just one bike centered, the other two mounting plates are to the right and left of where the bike is to be set up for hauling two bikes whick I did to VIR.

The other things I am also going to do is paint the interior and install the niceraxx stand holders to free up more floor space and keep the trailer cleaner looking.

The total for the rehab has been right around $300.00 not including the stand, microwave or fridge.

It will be nice when complete.

So far no problems and I have my other set of wheels mounted on the two rear doors. When I mounted them, I used a 1/4in (I think) piece of plywood and mounted that to the door and then mounted the flange to that with 4 THICK wood screws. I've driven a shitload of miles and everything is still rock solid.

BTW - I used that garage floor epoxy paint on my floor and I'm very happy with it. Oil, gas and whatever else I have spilled on it has done nothing to it and wipes right up.

What are you going use to keep the fronts from 'walking' around during towing?

The fronts can't move more than an inch or so.
The handlebars can turn, but the stand fixes the
location of the bike with spacers on the rod that
runs through the rear axle.
