after spending a mint on replacement bulbs, new led light housings, etc... i found the real problem - some of the wiring was severed by the jack stand.
(not to mention the countless mosquito bites)

i got the 7 to 4 adapter with leds to confirm the wiring is ok

those trailer testers are terrific. best $10 I spend on trailer crap.
