View Full Version : Gearing for Pocono East (Worries)

I use 3rd gear through the entire course except for going down to 2nd in the Bus Stop/hairpin and getting to the top of 4th on the back straight.

Obviously I have some room for faster acceleration here, but I am worried I may screw up a good thing...in that I don't want to go up in the rear and risk having to shift at inopportune times (Like while in a corner). Right now I leave it in third for the most part and use the Bike's grunt.

Does anyone have any experience with the SV at PIR? Anyone have any general thoughts?

Thanks,

Bryce

when on pocono east i run -1 +2 on my cbr600rr. not sure what a sv should run. all i know is that tight gearing is good on that track just watch the throttle. with that gearing i was running 1:12's. the tighter the better if you ask me

Yeah 1:12's will take me awhile. ;)

I'm a new Intermediate group rider with TPM, so i guess I'll leave it as is. Right now I pin the throttle out of every corner exit for the most part, so I guess I could go +2 or +3 in the rear and learn some throttle control....but for now I am going to work on squaring off corners instead of arcing around them and really snapping into corners as well as my body position.

Thanks,

Bryce

I had a Gixxer 1000 with stock gearing and ran 1:16. I only ever used the same gears as you.

Dont worry about gearing yet. Once you get below 1:15 then thing's like that will help...

I guess I'd need a lap timer then. *doh!* :p

In all honesty a buddy with a 99 GSXR-750 and +2 in the rear will be riding with me. We have our fun together and wanted to see if there was a way to negate his power advantage as much as possible (other than the obvious....be faster than him n the tuns. :P). He's a better rider than me now, but with my idle hands between trackdays....it got me thinking. :)

Thanks,

Bryce

I have no idea what sprokets I am running LOL I have a box of them.. I think it is stock gearing.. Are you in the red group? It is gonna be fun dicing it with SV's on that track.

U'll most likely do more slicing than dicing with me. ;) Will be my first time in Red. Just got Bumped. Don't make me look too slow. :P

like ralph said, don't worry about the gearing so much yet. right now it isn't really your bike or your buddy's bike that's gonna be much of the dirrerence in speed, more likely your skill vs his skill.

I absolutely agree. But trying to get any advantage to compensate if possible. :p
