Yea, how about leaving the racing to drag strips or race tracks?

This is so true...

But my questionm is, what the hell is a 61 year old father doing out with his daughter and grandchild at that time watching illegal street racing?

OR... what is the crowd of people doing standing in the middle of a 55 mph road at 4am? Great example of "social proof (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_proof)". Let's stand in the middle of the road so we can see better?
The car that hit them was just driving down the road after the race.

either way: yes, it's tragic and "keep it on the track" is right
