Well after my little get off at beaverun 2 weeks ago I decided it was time for a makeover for my lil' old zx6r. I started Monday and was hoping to have it finished for today, but I actually finished it last night around 8 p.m. and mounted up the body work (lightly) and took some pics. Here is a little history of my track bike.....

Everything was done with Rattle Cans so I'm pretty happy with the result...

I would also like to thank CBRBob for helping me with fiberglassing some stuff....Thanks Bob!

Looks good Chris. Nice Job. To bring out more shine, you may have to wet sand it again and apply more clear. For the track, I would leave it alone though.

Before anyone starts making any assumptions as to what happened I should let you guys know that I DID NOT CRASH RIDING OVER MY HEAD.

I was coaching in white group following another coach and a rider whom I was oberserving. On the back straight before the braking markers I decided I didn't need to hang out here any more and decided to move on to the next guy. It just so happened that Bob went past me and I moved out after he had gone by.

I looked over to my right for a second to get the details of the bike I was observing so I could be sure to talk to him when the session was over. I looked back and not far enough ahead to see Bob's rear tire a little more than a foot away from my front tire.

I got on the brakes harder and harder trying to avoid him, I probably could have swerved but I was not aware of my position on the track other than that I was behind Bob and there were riders to my right above the wall at the braking markers. To avoid colliding really friggen hard with Bob I just gave it all I could and launched myself over the handle bars after riding an endo for what seemed like an eternity.

My hands landed on Bobs tail section and my face near his tire/undertail exhaust. I held on for a second that I can remember and then I was sliding down the backstraight. This couldn't have been at more than 40 or 50 mph. I came to a halt on the pavement and immediately jumped up and ran off into the inside of the track on the grass where I proceeded to rip my helmet and gloves of cursing myself out.

Bob can explain what he felt, but from what he told me it felt as those someone just wiggled him a little.

I fucked up and failed to stay concentrated on my surroundings while trying to observe someone on the track. This crash was not due to anyones actions but my own and it should not have happened. I play the scenerio over and over again and still cannot figure out what happened exactly. I'm left with only a vague idea.

I know alot of people think I'm a hot head and trouble waiting to happened but on the track if you knew me 2 or hell even 1 year ago you would see for yourself the kind of rider that I am today. I'm sure people can vouch but I know how I ride and no one's opinion will change that.

I broke my 5th metatarsal closer towards the pinky toe rather than the back of the foot which is usually called a Jones Fracture and sometimes requires surgery. Luckily I will not and will most likely recieve an air boot and have it wrapped. So I am fine and the bike will be back to new by the end of this week.

Thanks to those who made sure I was ok and the kind words from everyone at the track.

Chris, we don't, if we did then we wouldn't be your friends. Glad you're not to hurt, heal fast. You weren't riding like a a**hole, you just made an error. Remember, bikes are machines all can be repaired or replaced never sweat the small stuff. Don't beat yourself up, we still love ya kiddo.

Chris - It always sucks to experience a crash, but unfortuneately mistakes
are how we learn. As I read your description of the accident it was obvious
to me that you understood your mistake, and that it is not at all likely to
happen again. Get well soon Chris, I'll see you at the track!

Yep mistakes suck, but we are human....unless you are Dave Gallo and call yourself "God" :roflmao:

And after this with the painting and getting it ready + the broken foot it won't be happening again in this lifetime.

Hey Chris, Dont sweat this too bad. Your fine, the bike can be fixed, and It was Bob's fault anyway...:moocow:

Seriously, Youve taken full responibility for what happened and thats hard to come by in this sport.

Heal up fast and come back to the track!!!:nod2:

Chris
08-27-2007, 07:31 PM
The same thing has happened to many of the coaches.Like ralph said don't sweat it,not many people would own up to making a mistake.I think that you are a great rider:lol: Heal up fast.

Kennedy
08-27-2007, 08:43 PM
Thanks guys its not like I could even blame it on anyone else but myself. It wasn't the brakes it wasn't the tires it was the rider, just like 99.999 % of the time of crashes is the riders own error.

Good I'm still on crutches for 3 weeks but the good news is that I did not need surgery. I was close but Im good to go for now.

So now it's just a waiting game.

Thanks for asking!

Cool, glad to hear you're doing well

I was off the crutches in 4 days (after my knee was working again). I had a walking air cast. I was back on the bike 2 1/2 weeks later:) last x-ray said 70% healed. Thanks to staying active and eating right.

Im in one of those stupid boots (no fiberglass) and I can put 100% weight on it with it on. When its off I can put about 85% weight on it. Since I'm only about 4 weeks into the healing I don't want to push it. So around the house I walk....when I go out I'm on the crutches
