That's more like it. More lean up top, less ass off the seat. Body (more) parallel with the angle of the bike and not twisted. Chest/shoulders squarely facing the direction of the corner. Spine straight.

The guys that really are quick might want to correct me or add to that list. The main issue with all those guys is that they're twisted. Seem to by trying to hard to get their knee down. IDK, I'm not perfect either, just like to practice form and as you've probably noticed, I do that in a car park at low speed because I can't afford to go to track days every other weekend. :(

FYI. I've been riding for a bit over 2 years and have done one track day so my word isn't gospel by any stretch of the imagination. I'm just pointing out what I thought was bad form. I have pics posted of my form on the site somewhere if anyone wants to critique me. I'd appreciate the feedback to be honest. :)

i think your 100% wrong, i dont think your looking correctly at the picture

EvilSteve

In the sense that I'm not seeing their form correctly and it's in fact good? Or about what I'm saying is good form?

Brian78
08-21-2007, 11:28 AM
about what ur seeing. the photos are from the rear (obviously) and i think its tough to tell where their body is positioned in relation to the front of the motorcycle. i think what ur sayin about body position is fairly accurate

some other pics for comparison, i can see what you're saying about 'twisting'.

Ok. What I'm looking at is the curve in the second student's spine based on the creasing in the right side of his suit (compared to the left). The last guy looks better but his head is pretty close to where his screen is (you can just see it over his right shoulder). Maybe the chick isn't so bad but just the way she has her head makes it seem as though she's twisted as well. She's also more upright out of the corner so might not be as pronounced.

I'm looking for a couple of pics to illustrate now, having trouble finding them.

edit: Awesome, thanks ginoe, that's what I was saying. BOTY might be right though, it could be an angle of view problem but they look like they're twisting to me.

Fast or slow, form should be the same.

You can still aim to have motogp level form without being a motogp level rider no?

hows this for bad body position :moocow:

EvilSteve

Miguel's style works for him and that's very important. If it works for you and you're a top level racer then do what works. If you're pushing your own limits, getting less lean of the bike by being more off it is better. Better for the COG, better for more angle (available) and better for suspension travel. Personal comfort is important but my whole point was that there were three students (?) following a coach who all seemed to have poor form. While I do think using form that suits you can lead to increased comfort and therefore confidence which is a good thing, I think that as students (we're not pros) we should all strive for the best form possible.

...and they are begginers, and thats not that bad for their stage of track riding and/or experience.

there are lots of ways to ride a bike....all are not ideal...but they are not nessesarily wrong......
yes I think that their body position could be better...but all and all its not terrible either.
ever look at Mic Doohan, Miguel Duhamel, Tony Elias,Kevin Schwantz,Valentino Rossi....they are all different and ALL do little things WRONG from the IDEAL

just :ride:

He's always had horrible form ever since I can remember, but it still got him many championship wins along with a nice third place in points this season...at least before his nasty face time with the wall.

Reminds me of mother goose and all her little chicks following..

Cool picture tho...

Most likely white group, so getting off the seat at all is a bonus. The angle of the pic can be a little deceiving, but it still looks like they are twisting nonetheless.

Good form takes a lot of energy & strength... Right now I am lucky to do it for half a session, let alone a whole friggen day....

At that level they'll build the bike around the way they ride.

I caught a detailed write-up on how different the set-ups are between Mig's and Jake's machines...good stuff.
