Not to long ago I went to IrocRobs house with my wifes bike and we put on a new Chain and Front Sprocket. Now today is the 1st time the bike has been out and my wife said its bogging at 9k RPM's. Redline is at 14K RPM's

Went back home and I took it out and yes she is telling the truth. Any Ideas.? IrocRob put the new Sprocket and Chain on and I trust his judgement so he is NOT the blame. But she said it didnt do it before the new chain, but on the wat there the chain was really tight.

Nevermind, I saw you said it was just the front sprocket that got replaced.

Carry on...

John - Didn't we install a new chain and both sprockets on 6/9/2007?
Along with a new rear tire and a new tire valve?

Does it feel like the engine is dying or does it feel as if the engine
is working against extra resistance once it reaches 9000 RPM?

We had the rear tire off the bike also Joe...
(New chain and both sprockets)
Ahh...take a good look around, make sure the spacer didn't fall out and roll under the work bench or anything. Happens to people all the time. John, put the bike up on the stand and spin the wheel.

We did do both right.? She said just the front.

Doesnt feel like its dying but more like working against extra resistance like mentioned

No extra parts lying around the garage Joe.
And nothing for anything to roll under either.

maybe i'm retarded but to have somethin feel like it's boggin at 9k seems a little odd. you would think any kind of "dragging" would kinda disappear at 9k and turn into more of and OH SHIT somethin ain't right. how bad of a bog is it? does it go away above 9, or continue up to redline? this just sounds weird.

just something else...open up the airbox and check for obstructions/debiris too.

could be alot of things that can cause a bogging engine at higher rpm's. Always check for the obvious loose sensors. Could be fuel or spark related. How do your sparlplugs look?

A little more info is also good...
what mods have been done?
Is it a hard bog at a specific RPM point?
Does the engine rev past that point but at a much slower rate?
Does it rev easily when it's not in gear? (just saw answer)
Does the rpm climb start fast and then slow down as you get closer to a specific RPM?
What does the exhaust look like when it bogs?

What you don't believe your wife?

I just got a chance to change my plugs this weekend since i got my bike used. The old ones were dirty as hell. I noticed it revs much quicker above 8000 rpm. Could be fouled plugs.

Hey John,
Did you have the tank lifted at all? If so make sure that the fuel line is not kinked. This will happen if you just put the tank back down and do not push down on the fuel line while lowering the tank. This has happened to me and that is how I know and it felt like it was hitting a wall around 9K-10K rpms and would not rev past that. Once I checked the fuel line and found that it was kinked and fixed it wala, returned to normal reving to redline with no problems.
