Well it was time to swap the rims for some race rubber that I need to put on. And just like every time I go to do it....Guess what?!! I don't have stands.

Why you ask...well because I can't afford them. So I just use a harley frame stand, sometimes a hydrolic jack for support and a tie strap. And Wallah! You have lift off !!!

Actually its mainly the bottom of the rear shock and the edge of the kickstand for that matter, supported by a piece of wood and the metal file.

Yea I need stands.

Which one you getting? The updated forward facing rear stand pitbull makes is pretty cool, saves space.

Chris,
I have an older Lockhart rearstand you can just have. I will put it in the trailer for you. Its set up for a lifting from beneath a square section swingarm like yours has. Maybe it can be modified for swingarm spools. Let me know if you want it.

Getting some like the set you just sold!!

Rear - Spooled/swingarm

Front later with multiple pins.

Speaking of which,,. is the pin the same on the front for 2006 R6 and a 2007 R6S ????

The answer is.....maybe. If you want to "try before you buy"
stop by my place, I have almost all of the Pit Bull front stand pins.

R6 (’99 & ‘00) Std. Pin
R6 (’01 to ‘05), R6S (‘06 to ‘07) #8 Pin
R6 (‘06 to ‘07) #8S Pin

You know there's dozens of places on eBay that sell decent front/rear stand sets for less then $100.

Decent yes, PitBull quality...no.

Exactly. Won't spend the money(which I don't have to begin with) on something not worth buying.

Get stands now!!!

One tip and you'll be paying a lot more than a couple of hundred to repair stupid little stuff.

There was a guy on GDC a few years back, bought a set of $100 stands. Was doing some minor work on the bike and one the stands buckled, bike fell over. Worse part is his 4yr old happened to be walking by luckily missed but only by a few inches.

Really?

I have those stands (Checkered Flag). The guy's name was Scott I think, the business has since went belly up as he's in the middle of a divorce.

I actually got them when they were $89 shipped before the price went up. I've had them for over 2 years now of very frequent use and no issues at all. Never heard from anyone else on GDC that had any issues with them failing.

When I get home I'll take a good close look at them under good light to see if there is any fatigueing. Perhaps you got a dud :(

I have stands from this company. They are strong and close to pit-bull quality.

Not exactly sure what brand he said they were, but I definitely remember the story due to what "almost happened." Might of been Handy Stands, but I can't say for sure. I know he said they were $100 for the set. I'm sure there are other brands that will hold up and do a good job, I just don't have any experience with anything other than PitBull.

PitBull is the way to go I picked my front/rear stand up on ebay for 150 for both of them.

CBRBob

I picked up a set of Handy's for a friend who does little more than lubing the chain and cleaning the wheels with them. They work but they move around. Once you get a quality stand like PitBulls, you don't want to use others. You could probably lift your cage with PBs.

Oh I see.

Probably a different stand company. Scott made them entirely himself; mandrel bending, welding, powdercoating. Never heard of anyone have one fail, they definately weren't shoddy stands.

Just got the rear stand the other day. Pretty sturdy I must say. It is a little nerve racking lifting alone though.

Why? Perhaps you need to do it more to get used to it or you might be doing something wrong?

Try lifting without a kick stand lol at the track with full gear

JimRBlue

I seem to have it down okay. seems lining up the spools is the hardest part after that its pretty easy. I could imagine trying it without the kick stand though.

Sidebar - possibly dumb question. When I finally do get the front stand, which is the correct order of lifting? Front first then rear? Or rear first.>?

IrocRob
07-26-2007, 12:36 PM
When putting the bike up on the stands, rear stand first.

When taking the bike off the stands, rear stand last.

EDIT - If you try to use the front stand either first, or alone,
then the bike can still pivot around the steering stem and tip over.

Rear first, always to lift. Reverse order to drop back down.

Thats what I was thinking about. Pivot issues... I figured it was best to save the rear for last.. ;) Just wanted to make sure..

I have a pitbull rear stand and also a set from Checkered Flag Motorsports ... I am not surprised they went belly up, customer service was terrible. I ordered, didn't hear anything for about a month, was about to cancel my order and they just showed up one day. No emails or calls in response to my calls. Anyway, the pitbull is a noticeably better stand in quality but the checkered flag stands work well too, fit and finish is nice, just a little lightweight and wimpy feeling when holding both that and the pitbull.
