Yeah, this'll be my first. I'm riding my own bike so I'll be taking it really easy. Have to get some frame sliders before then too. Any suggestions on preferred brands? Something that works, I don't mid cutting the fairing as long as it'll do its job.

Intuitive, and lightning products make good frame sliders...

Sweet, I'll have to introduce myself. :)

I'm a bit nervous about this still. I'm concerned that the track thing is going to remove my usual riding caution (my friends call me Captain Law-abiding-citizen or Captain Safety) and I'll be on my own bike. I still have to get frame sliders too. May's a long way off though.

Find us, its easy!

Actually I find most people including myself ride slower on the street, you get the SPEED out of your system. W

While sliders are a good idea, it's not like you can't ride the track without them. Just look at it this way. If you crash, it's gonna cost $$ anyway

this year will be different, street tires, taped up lights on stock plastics, taped up mirrors, im just going to have fun and take it easy. Something about 'having' to be fast takes the fun outta it. then your pressured to get tire warmers, race plastics and the like to really duke it out comfortably. Im just not into it like that this time around. BUT, should i get bumped into red its cool, ill be one of those guys who holds everyone up while my stock tires come up to temp and you can laugh at the guy w/ the mirrors and license plate as you pass me. :ride: different mentality this year

There wasnt last time. it was a bit confusing too becasue we were all in the garage with the cars, and you cant understand a damn word linda says when she screams into the microphone.

The guys on the north course were kinda pissed last time due to an oil spill taking out a good chunk of time for clean up but things ran prety well on the east course.

whats your take on the North course tom?

I've only corner worked the north course but it looks kinda bland.

Some folks say it flows pretty good but its only like (9?) corners and a big chunk of it is on the Nascar straight. Not my cup of tea but to each his own.

I would take the two fast sections of FUSA before I did North

I was riding in Red on my new (to me) 2001 R6 getting a feel for it. After a geometry change (pulled the forks up 3mm, was handling like a truck) and suspension change (added 2 clicks of rebound dampening in the shock for the bumps) I started to get my groove back and two coaches coaxed into Blue. (for the second time...on the same exact day as last year actually) I had a great day! :)

That sounds awesome dude, you must really know how to ride if you got bumped to blue!

Thanks Joe, I actually got my knee down a few times in turn 11 (decreasing radius onto the front straight - I think it's turn 11) so I guess I shouldn't complain about my form. I still need work though. I found that in some corners I was just going too slow to make it work. The double apex was one and turn two was the other. Omar was giving me a hand at one point in the day but having talked to him after, I wasn't getting what he was trying to tell me. It was weird riding the 750 out there, barely got out of 2 on the back straight. lol

It's all relative, when I was in blue I distinctly remember coach TJ Foti and a red Ducati 998 (I think?) pass me like I was standing still at one point. :p The track humbles u as well as would the # of crashes I've had. :jam2: But yeah, it's always a good feeling to get asked to move up in a group. Good times.

I watched some video of me that was taken right after the pit out, I looked so slow, it was pretty pathetic.

is this THE Lance who did the shadowing??? hey, Lance, small world, its Kevin w/ the black Ducati 749 in white group. Awesome service you're part of and thanks again. Something to show the grandkids.

If this isnt THE Lance, then kindly disregard this post :roflmao:

yep, that's me. You were looking pretty good out there Kevin!- congrats on the bump!
Thanks for the kind words kevin. I'm hope you enjoy the video, I'm curious to see it myself. I'm pretty sure that your video is currently being produced- you should have it in a week or so.
It was good to meet you, I hope to see you out there next time.

Thanks Ron, here's a different angle of my form. Doesn't have my knee down but I don't think they got that. I do have pathetically small scrape on my left slider to show for it. lol

Yeah, I know. I was taking it pretty easy most of the day, trying not to use my brakes and basically staying smooth. Getting the knee down was a bit of a surprise but it wasn't what I was there to do. Everyone was kind of surprised and happy for me I guess and I'm kind of proud of it but having seen the video and these pictures I can see plenty of ways to improve my form.

Thanks again Joe.

Here are all the pics from the race day photographer if anyone's inclined to look through them: http://www.denniscuevas.com/rdp/tpm/may06/ea/index.htm

Oh stop. Don't worry about it. Getting your knee down for the 1st time is like one of the greatest feelings ever! Enjoy it and congrats!

Anyway, no one in our group went down (Vin went off track but didn't dump the bike) so it was a good day. I want to buy a track bike now... sigh.

you already have a great track bike :)

EvilSteve
05-09-2007, 10:40 AM
but it's also my street bike, I don't want to dump it at the track and then not be able to ride. I was thinking of picking up a salvage title 06/07 gsxr600, that way the parts are interchangeable and it's a similar feel.

Or u could grab a used YZF600r or something similar for the street for <$3k and keep the beast for the track. :o GL!

Heh, I'd prefer less power at the track, especially if I'm going to go to pocono again, seriously, I barely got out of 2nd gear! I want to be able to use the bike a bit more. I'd actually love to get an RS250 or something but I'd have to become a mechanic that way. ;)

Thanks again guys.

So what is the percentage of people crashing their bikes? Extremely low. I have a street and a track bike for 2 reasons. I don't have to convert it every time and they are different types, the track bike is more hardcore for the track. Ride with your head, don't be cheap with tires and all is well........usually LOL

I agree with u EvilSteve...I started on an SV650 and absolutely loved it, especially on smaller tracks like PIR. I still miss it to this day and am getting used to the R6's power. *thumbsup*

I was always in control, never seriously missed a corner or ran wide. What I didn't like about it was that my bike was like an auto, just leave it in one gear and turn the throttle. I'm not getting to learn about gears that way which is something I do want to learn.

Give it time, Dan. With each track day that you do, you'll be
going a little faster, shifting a bit more, and wearing out tires
quicker than you thought possible. :ride:

So when's your next track day?

Yeah once you start going faster you will use more gears. Plus once you go away from Pocono you will use more gears.

Rs250 was a great bike... If it had 10 more horsepower it would be even better! If you are going the 2 smoker route get a real gp bike and get a 125.

I was just looking at some TZ250s and the RS250s but I don't think I'm going to be able to afford to make them go the right way. I have a friend that has 3 RS250s and thinks I should get one. I'd prefer to get a 2 stroke but it's not practical for me (I'm married). If I could get a salvage title 06/07 gsxr-600 most of the parts would be interchangeable (and readily available!) with my bike and it'd be more fun (than my bike).

I'm definitely going to do another track day. It was funny, on the day and the day after I wasn't all that excited about the whole thing but now I'm feeling much more into it. I want to do a real road course at some point like VIR but Pocono is still the closest and least hassle to get to.

How bout an SV? You could pick one up all ready done for bout $3.5-4K :D

Yeah, I've thought about an SV but I don't want to go twin and I4. I think riding the same type of motor on street & track will help my riding the most. If I go the gixxer route, as long as it runs and rolls I've already got everything I need anyway.

for body positioning, always kiss the mirror!

Had fun at pocono, took the LBT (libyian battle tank) "Omar's bike" out for a session and had a blast on that thing. You can just pin the throttle coming out of corners!

Good to meet those who I didn't know, and good to see those I do.
EvilSteve, you did great for "day 1", by the way the guy behind you in that pic sure is sexy! :)
Bryce, you rode very well, just remember what we talked about and you should be fine in blue.
I did a ton of riding, lots and lots of sessions. At the end of the day I was so whooped! But it was great, here's a shot dennis took, forget knee, we're going for elbow this year!:
