thanks for the link! :) i remember reading it back when it was posted, i didn't think much of it then.

this cabin fever is hitting, bored with xbox so i started playing with linux (knoppix) since this flavor seems easy. i've been using the live cd, just got it working off an SD card. so now i can live SD knoppix pretty much anywhere.

that cartoon link in your other post is funny as hell, i pissed in my pants when i read the 'pwned' cartoon

Just installed Fedora Core 6 on my laptop. I've got a Belkin F5D7010 802.11 adapter I'm tryin to find some drivers for. I've found a few sites that say there's a driver out there but it's hard to find, and all the sites that say they don't link the damn driver. Anyone by chance have any ideas where I might be able to find it?

is that wireless? i'm having a heck of a time getting my wireless to work.

i've tried many distros (knoppix, mepis, suse, finally chose ubuntu) & so far none of them get the wireless working out of the box.

Here's what I've come up with so far...

Through reverse engineering, a linux driver for the Broadcom 43xx series chipset has created. This chipset is used in the Airport Extreme, TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card, Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI Card, WL-100G, Linksys WMP54G PCI, Belkin F5D7010 54g Wireless Network card, etc.

Problem is... that was posted on a tech board over a year ago...and the link they provided no longer exists...

I tried to find native drivers for the cheap wireless dongles for my mac mini (powerpc) and struck out hardcore. Like you Duff, anything I found was well over a year ago and all the newest posts where about them not working. I ended up having to pay a lot more to get one that actually worked with it.

ginoe, what wireless card do you have? If I spot anything while I'm in search of info for mine I'll let you know

Alright... Got somethin figured out. Aparently you can download a file called ndiswrapper that allows you to use windows drivers on hardware that has no driver for linux. Once ndiswrapper is downloaded, You need a recent kernel, at least 2.6.6 or 2.4.26, with header files for the kernel. Since this is the first time I've ever played with linux...this is where I'm getting lost. I went and downloaded a recent kernel...but it's just a text file it seems, so what the hell do I do with it now...? Here's the install instructions for ndiswrapper EL CLICKO (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/wiki)

it works - finally wireless on my compaq nx9010 laptop running ubuntu 6.10!!!

took me about a month of searching the 'net but i finally found a HOW TO that had step-by-step instructions.

ymmv - UBUNTU/BROADCOM WIRELESS (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185174)

Got rid of Fedora and installed Ubuntu 6.10, and the card just worked. Didn't have to install anything, picked the hardware up just as quick and easy as it picked everything else up! After playin with it for about a week, I went ahead and formatted the drive and cleared Windows off completely. Now I just need to learn a little more about this kernel mumbo jumbo so I can figure out how to install the programs that don't have the auto install package
