Stage 1 - Did 13.1 miles last night with an average speed of about 13 mph. Top speed was 36.5 mph and slowest was ~ 5-6 mph going up my hill.

Stage 2 - Did 14.8 miles with an average of around 13 or 14 mph. Not sure because I don't know when I left and had to pull over a couple times to make seat and cleat adjustments and to fix my chain. Prob. did it in about an hour or maybe a little more. Top Speed was 40.0 mph and the slowest was again 5-6 mph up my stupid hill.

Stage 3 - Did 20.3 miles on a completely different route with an average of 14.8 mph. A little more rolling rather then huge ridiculous climbs but still very hilly nonetheless. I finally figured out how to use the start stop function of my computer thing so these are averages with stops excluded. Total riding time of 1h 22min. Total time of about 1h 45min. Might have to use tomorrow as a rest/recovery ride day though because my legs are really tired. And the 92 degree heat prob. doesn't help.

Stage 4 - Well, due to being really tired and sore I decided to use this as a rest/recovery ride day. Did 11 miles at a slow 11 mph or so.

Stage 5 - Did 22 miles with an average of 15 mph. Tried a different variation of the Stage 3 route. Felt pretty good too. I guess the recovery ride really helped. Front derailleur shifts like crap though so I had to stop twice to put the stupid chain back on the crank which brought my average speed down a bit.

Total Mileage for the Tour de Ant = 82 miles :)

Awesome! Congrats!! We've got a friend training for the MS150, and we've got out riding with him -- MAN, that's some hard work. (But well worth it... )

Keep up the good work!!

Get that man a yellow jersey. LOL

For those that don't ride bikes. Maintaining an average speed of 13 mph is a good pace. Keep up the good work Ant.

thanks, it's the hills that kill me. On flat terrain I can hold a steady 17 mph or so. 20 mph if I push it. Most hills I can go up around 10 mph.

I hear ya. I used to hate hills on the MTB too. I used to ride the back way into Lewis Morris Park in Morristown, and there is a huge hill that you have to go up to get to the trails. When I started, I would have to get off and push/carry the bike up it. As I rode more and more, I got better and better, and could finally make it up it.

Its a great feeling when you finally accomplish something like that. Even better when you pass others doing it. As they say, its all down hill after that. LOL

lol, no about 200lbs. If I ever get close to 180 I'd be pretty damn happy but I doubt that will happen. Besides at this point it's not about losing weight it's about being able to do a century which is 100 miles in one shot.

That's the goal but I doubt it will happen this year. This year I'd like to be able to do 50. Next year I'm going for the 100 mark.

Damn ANT your killing it on that bike. I don't think i could make it 5 miles on a bike.

But how was it when you first started out? Did you only ride like a mile or 2 until you started getting in shape?

The reason i ask is because im not that much of a runner and was thinking about getting into the MTB scene.

So any info would be great.

Honestly, Nick, I could barely make it .5 miles. But I just kept pushing it everyday until I got stronger. Within a month I was doing 10.

I would just get a beginner level mountain bike which is what I did. Unless you KNOW you will stick to road riding. In that case I'd look at the Trek's, Giant's, and Felt's.

I just updated the thread with Stage 2 updates. :blahblah: :bunny: I may have to adjust my mileage up at this pace.
