whats your take on keeping the rad fan on your bike? some say yes keep it becasue it helps on hot days when sitting idle and others say it restricts airflows when moving ...

I like the fan. You don't have to worry about overheating.

I bet you'd loose a good 1lb taking that thing off!

Mine however is staying put. :)

It's imperative you remove the fan, as well as the battery and starter for track days and amateur racing.

LOL.

Never did remove my battery and starter. Drew might as well of since his battery was dead and he had to push start it every time.

Mike the main reason I see for removing the rad fan is to minimize damage during a get off. The fan is just another thing to push through that expensive rad. Weight savings is bullshit and the bike wont overheat since your never idling it long enough. although trackdays you may be.

i can guarantee my bike would overheat. on a hot day that fan kicks in quite often if i'm not moving. You could prpbably cook an egg or a leg or two on my bike in the summer. Probably the one thing i really hate about it, thats why on really hot days its almost unbearable to get on it with a jacket

On the street any bike would overheat in traffic without a fan. shit when I still rode on the street my 600rr would overheat in traffic WITH the fan going.

Leave it, if you are worried it's going to hurt the rad. in a crash, the rad is going to be smashed anyway!

I had a bike without one and it would constantly overheat and it burnt my foot/leg a few times. Just not worth it.

I totaly agree leave it on. But some say that it actually prevents air flow to the rad

I'm sure "some" people know better than the people who work for the manufacturers testing and creating these bikes

In reality think about it.....Airflow is disrupted while at speed by the fan..the fan blades are not moving therefore they cause a SLIGHT blockage. The fan is there for when the bike is creating more heat then the airflow can dissipate. Such as an idle condition or a slow crawl when the fan is activated. Thats my opinion....But I would prob also leave it on. I took it off on my 600rr since my relay was fried and it wouldnt work anyway....but wish it did. Remember Mosport joe??

Common theroy is to remove it to save weight. The top level racers don't use it for weight and because they don't run altenators (total loss system) so any electric draw will kill the battery faster. For folks like us who don't replace engines after a few hours on them, keep the fan it save the motor and money in the long run.

The fans (both of them) are coming off the TLR this winter. Not once did they come on while waiting at pit out.

As for the TLS... The single fan it has needs to stay on. Sometimes I wish it had the dual set up like the TLR.

If the fan kicks on while at speed, I think one would have bigger problems than just a little air blockage

Refresh my memory from Mosport(I'm old.)

When my bike was overheating.....was running at like 245.....and we figured out that the fan relay wasnt working so i had two wires coming out of my upper that I would twist together to turn the fan on if it started getting hot. lol!
