Not sure which section this would best fit under, so I put it under Trackdays.

Went to my first minimoto event yesterday at Englishtown, NJ. Finally got a chance to take the NSR 50 out for some fun. I must say it was a blast! Probably one of the most fun times I've had in quite a while. Enough so that I have to ask myself if this is even more fun than regular trackdays on my 600RR.

Anyhow, anyone who is into roadracing at all, I encourage you to come and check out the next event. I am definitely hooked for sure, and I can't wait to do another day. These are basically practice sessions, not a race. It runs from 9-5, and the minibikes and pocketbikes take turns with the go-karts. It runs from 9-5, and we did 10 sessions that last about 10 minutes each. Believe me, that is plenty of seat time, because this was even more physically tiring than a regular trackday. For those of you who have been to a trackday, the day runs pretty similarly.

This is definitely something worth trying at least once. You can really push the limits on these minibikes a lot easier than you can on a full size sportbike. I was kneedowning by the second session, and was hitting lean angles that I never have before. Very good practice and experience which will carry over to the full size version.

Here are some pics.

Next event will be 10/28. I think there are two more in November too, but attendance at those will depend on how cold it is.

Thanks again to Dennis for introducing me to this awesome event. This will be the first of many for me without a doubt.

can anyone do it (with the correct equipment of course)?

just like a trackday but 'mini'?

like omar would say - 'show up at the track with your helmet & tape up your bike'...

Yep, as long as you have full gear and a pocketbike/minibike, you are all set.

Just in case anyone wants to know, my bike (#25) has seen about 15 to 20 trackdays (over a 2yr period) and I'm still on the original tires.....and I'm consistantly the one of fastest guys there on any given weekend. However, Dennis really stepped up his game since the last time we were both on the track. MAybe I'll slap on a new set of tires just to see what I can do.

See ya all in a few weeks.

CRF50 - MSRP $3600

NSF100 - MSRP - $4600 or $5600??

OTOH - Monmouth Cycles had a new one (NSR) for sale at $2400....Ya might want to check with Omar to see if they have any left.

Dennis picked his up used in very good condition for $1500.

BTW - it might be the most fun you can have on two wheels for the price.

Not sure if Monmouth has any more. The reason that I say this is because I believe I picked up the last new NSR they had off the floor :)

But yeah, search around on the used market. Or call up every Honda dealer you can think of to see if they happen to have any left over.

And I agree with Brian. The price for the bike was definitely worth it.

Pompton Honda on Rt.23 has em.

Yes, they do actually. I remember seeing them on the showroom floor. However, I did call once, and they were asking close to full MSRP (around $3500). If you put in enough effort, you can definitely do better than that.

That said though, I only asked what they were selling for. I didn't try to negotiate prices with them.

Contact Robert at 304-296-9055, Morgantown, WV......current bid on e-bay is $1500 and it's brand spankin new.

BTW - I paid $3000 for my NSR early in 2005.

Also, you don't need to be there at 9 sharp. Just come whenever to observe the action, up until 5pm.

shamster

Yep, there is a practice event tomorrow, from 9-5. It's $10 to get in the door to spectate (which I know sucks, but nothing we can do...blame the people at e-town Raceway).

But I encourage any of you to come and check it out. I'll be there with my NSR (wifey with hers too), along with some of the usual others. It's a growing sport, and still in need of people showing interest if it has a chance of expanding at all.

If any of you have full gear, bring it along too. If you're lucky, and don't mind paying the $30 entry fee, maybe someone with an extra bike may be willing to let you try it out.

If you need directions, check out their site...

Maintenance should actually be easier than a real bike. Cause it's a 2 stroke, oil changes are easier, and everything is easier to break down if you're mechanically inclinded.

Even though it's only a 7hp bike, it can still bite you if you aren't careful. Whack the throttle too hard in the middle of a turn, and you may be sorry. But yes, it's much easier to push the limits of the NSR than a full size bike of course. You won't be going very fast in the straights in comparison, as I think it tops out at around 60'ish, but it's fun as hell in the corners!

Leave it to Honda to start a good thing stepping up from the mini sized pocked bikes for track days. When Honda released those a while ago I'd always wondered if they were worth the money in entertainment, it seems they are.

How's the maintenance on these vs a standard size trackbike?

Do you actually have to work the bike at all regarding throttle and braking or do you just open the throttle wide the entire way and push it thru the turns with more bike lean?

What's the average to top speed on the track?

1st timer & had a blast!

got very interesting when i followed a couple of bikes out of the pits onto the grid, next thing we know we're all running with the carts! i thought this was pretty cool & was already formulating a plan on where i can try a pass. then the marshall flagged me off the track - our bikes were not supposed to be out there yet

good to meet you shamster, can't wait until next time. :ride:

Great day yesterday...good to meet you too Ginoe. Hope to see you at more of the events in the future.

The next and final practice date for the year is 11/18. If the weather isn't too cold by then, I'll be there too.

I have been there in the Spring on my CRF 50 with two other guys, we met NJ racer and some other dude. We had a pretty good time.

Were there any other CRF or XR 50 's there this past weekend?
I may show up on the 18th.

There were two other mini-motards there, but not sure if what model bikes there were.

Definitely come out on the 18th if you can. As long as the weather is nice, it will be a blast!

Just the last 2006 practice session on the 18th. But no actual "races" left this year.

Just to clarify, practice sessions run from 9-5, and are similar to track days. You alternate with the go-karts, and the sessions are non-competitive (at least officially).

Some days, the practice sessions are followed by races at nights. Unfortunately, there are only races for the pocketbike classes. The minibikes (ie. NSR50) don't have their own class yet. Hopefully this will change in the future if more people with minibikes show up.

As I posted over at TSMMR, that bike is going to be too big to run with the pocket bikes. Since there is a good amoung of small kids, the track and the parents of the kids will have a problem with the size (also the State Police since they regulate the practice).

Check out www.esmra.com and you will see a nice schedule for the super motards.

Anywy, hope to see ya out on the 11th at the tard practice.
