Are you able to start the computer in safe mode?

Please restart the computer and as soon as you see the Compaq logo, begin tapping on the F8 key. From the list of options that you now see, choose Safe Mode and hit the enter key.

My cousin had something similar with a credit card machine at his store. He called to get a new one and they tried going over "troubleshooting" stuff with him. He's holding the machine in 5 pieces (it's literally broken) and the guy is trying to get him to reset the machine and enter a few codes. After 10 minutes of telling him it’s destroyed, my cousin told him to fuck off and hung up. Then a few days later my uncle called to get a machine and they have it documented that my cousin called and he was "non cooperative" when trying to solve the issue.
