Boots Advice

So looking into getting some boots. Dont want to spend too much, but looking for comfort & protection. Due to price and style, currently narrowed it down to these two boots. Obviously big differences in the both, so need advise on which way to go.
Question:
1)Do the higher boots feel less comfortable due to bulkiness?
2)Using Timbs hiking (not work) boots now...will I notice a difference if I upgrade to the lower boot?
3) I know most use Sidi, but dont feel like spending an arm & leg...am I on track with these two boots? Or should I keep looking?

You would probably be OK for the first one, but the second one you listed is not good. Check out these from SIDI I know you said you didn't want to spend an arm and a leg but you do get what you pay for.....

I have the Sidi Strada they are a good lightweight boot... they are also water proof

I also have Oxtar infinities, the are a cross between offroad and touring.. I like them
the stopped selling them but this is the next best thing

hikers are a bad idea. I was wearing them when I had my accident and it was pulled right off and compound fractured my heel. Definately recommend riding boots. If your worried about cost, Alpine Star has a few options for cheap and Ox Star as well. I have First Gear Millenium boots and love them they are a touring boot and are water proof and are comfortable to walk in. What ever you get stear clear of hiking and work boots if you can.

I wore my dock martin steel toes while riding for years and never had a problem with them even during my few body on the pavement advantures. HOWEVER, now that I'm on the track I'm using Sidi's and I have to say I wish I had bought a pair years ago. Very confortable and great protection. Well worth the little bit of extra money. Jut my 2 cents

Just a little confused b/c they all look the same!! Toe protector, armor shin, padded ankel...they just all seem to do the same thing, and there is a huge swing in price.

Has anybody tried a JR boot?, reviews??

Here's my little tidbit of advice....I have the Sidi Vertigo's (http://www.newenough.com/sidi_vertigo_air_boots_page.htm)
They're comfy enough to walk around in and to ride with. They're middle of the line--feature-wise as well as co$t. The adjustable calf allows some breathing room/comfort level too. Also, they have replaceable parts if needed--which I hope would never be needed but....

I felt well worth the money for protection and comfort. I'm not one to skimp on something like that espec. bein reliant on it in a mishap. One minor flaw...the rubber sole has started peeling back in the front so I've superglued it...same thing happened w/ Hani's too though. Thanks for idea Hani ;)

I was one click away from ordering the GPX boots last week, but I figured since I was going to WCW the next day I might as well wait and go try on some boots first. I tried the Sidi Vertigos, then the next day compared them to other boots in the $100 price range, and the difference is...as predicted, you get what you pay for. The cheaper boots feel like you are wearing big boots, whereas the Sidis give you a much higher confidence because you feel all the protection but your foot still retains its range of motion and all. I'm also gonna guess that the general quality of construction and materials used in the Sidis are superior to the cheaper ones, as well as the venting options for hot-weather riding. I decided I'm just going to save a few extra bucks up, then spring for the Sidis. Either the B2 or the Vertigo.

Spend the money and buy quality boots. A friend of mine had a pretty bad get off last year and the doctors told him had he not been wearing his Sidi Verts he would not be walking...

I went with the Oxtars and have been very happy with them.

I have to agree get good boots....It's your feet man. I tried on a TON of boots and finally the ones that fit me personally was the alpinestar SMXplus, I have a wide foot so I didn't fit right into a sidi, I tried some oxtar, Joe Rocket, Icon, and a few other brands I can't remember and the more expensive boots were well worth the price.

A little off topic but not really, it's also a good idea to get a Shark Fin and put it on the swingarm. It'll help keep your foot from getting caught in the chain incase of a mishap. Sample of one below.
