After seeing this guy's Blackstone tec CF wheel desintegrate, I would never put them on my bike, even if I could swing the money. Rider high sided at Beaverun and suffered a busted collar bone. Bike was a new Duc 749R with lots of extras, minus one carbon fiber front wheel now.

I'd bet there's one in the works...sucks for whoever made that wheel.

Do you know the details of the accident?
Did the wheel failure cause the highside?
Or did the highside flip the bike and break the wheel?

BTW - Was this at BeaveRun this past weekend with TPM?

I'm very curious for the details...

It was at Beaverun with TPM, Red group yesterday. The rider highsided at the end of the circuit going uphill. The bike chucked the rider, he broke his collar bone and the bike landed on the front wheel causing the spokes to shatter.
The wheel did not cause the accident. I was just surprised at the level of destruction from the bike landing.

well then that doesnt matter now does it? its not like the BSTs failed prematurely and caused the guy to go down. if it was then the story would be different. no lawsuit for him

Thanks for the information - No Lawsuit for him...
It seems to me that no wheel would survive that accident.

It also sounds like carbon fiber did exactly what it is
designed to do, reach it's limits and then fail dramatically
so that a damaged part is obvious to the eye.

I'm glad the rider made it without more serious injuries.

Being that's the case I rescind my previous statement.

I'm not sure what's more shocking... Seeing the rims like that or those bullet hole stickers on a Duc. :P

Highsides suck... Glad the kid isn't more seriously hurt.

Thats the reason those wheels are not DOT approved. What would happen if you hit a nice pothole on the street??

i have marchinesis rims now was planing to go to bst c/f rims now i am not so sure :wow:

i wonder if alot of marchinesis or other mag/alum rims fail after a big crash and no 1 realy makes a fuss over it ?

Chances are any other rim would have been bent pretty bad as well. He walked away from the crash and the bike can be fixed. Isn't that what we tell ourselves after every wreck.

well, if you think about it, it was kinda good that hte carbon wheel collapsed. If it didn't, it might of broke the forks. Since the wheel took all hit, nothing else was really damaged. Its like the airplanes, if their wings didn't flex, although it does look a lil scary when watching it from the plane inside, then we'd be in trouble

I didn't think of it that way, makes good sense though. Tough way to loose 2grand plus on one wheel.

Thing is we don't know what was/wasn't damaged besides the wheel, but I might be inclined to believe that one front wheel might cost more than the rest of the damage done to the bike.

oh...wow.....i didn't know that they were THAT expensive. I was gonna give it like $1000 tops for just one front wheel.

Come on....he highsided his bike, it flipped, landed on the front wheel and it broke.

What would be the reason behind a lawsuit??

The wheel shattered after coming back down from a high side, wheel rupture was not the cause of the accident.

The cost alone of that busted wheel brought a tear to my eye.

That is a friend of mine and there will be no lawsuit that I know of. Shit happens as we all know. Both the front and rear wheels are being sent to BST to be analyzed. He will be back on the track in 6-8 weeks.
