:pimp:

Put up a little test...held the cam outside the window of the truck. I think it was set to high rez.

Three resolutions at 15 fps: 640 x 480 (default), 320 x 240 or 160 x 120

pretty shitty.

15 fps at all 3 resolutions, yes. There are other cam's on the market in that price range that will do 15fps at 640, and 30fps at the lower ones.

My bro bought one a couple months back for about $120. I don't know any details on it but I know it's at least 30fps in some modes. He left for the marines 2 weeks ago so I probably won't hear from him for another 2 months, but I can ask him when I see him.

Just look into the higher quality cams that are on the same sites as the one you found, it can't be that difficult to locate them...

oooo, this actually needs a SD card to work. I thought it needed a wireless base station hooked up to a camera or something. So $100 isn't looking that bad now, but you also have to drop like $50 on a card unless you have one laying around. If they come out with a higher priced version that can do 30fps at 640 using CF instead of SD...I think they'd sell pretty nicely at $300.

Users manual says it will actually do 20fps at 320x240 adn 25fps at 160x120...

For an all inclusive stand alone camera $100 is a pretty sweet deal, especially if its as small as it looks.. Actually its a bit larger than I had originally thought.... Still not a bad deal.. Curious to know what other similar products are out there....

That camera looks pretty good for what it is.. self contained. if your just looking to get some simple clips then i think its good. but there are more professional approches.. such as using some type of recording device under the seat or attached to your suit somewhere. They do make small ones. With a remote lipstick camera attached to your helmet. Thats the typical setup i belive. Mochaboy had a very small miniDV camcorder that he put in his jacket and hooked up a remote camera to his helmet, it worked pretty good.

looks interesting, keeping the camera safe while on the track would be the trick, especially for a bike with race plastic. No trunk space. Maybe a small tank bag would be a good place for the camera.

i have both; oregon scientific & the viosport.

i've used both on the bike. i originally bought it for snowboarding, funny how alkaline batteries don't work at freezing temps (didn't know that at the time). i have to get the more $$$ lithium batteries for this winter season.

i'm not sure if 1 gig will be enough memory for video. With decent quality, a 2 gig card can get most of 30 min or something close to it.......

They give you the time breakdowns in the user manual on that link. At 640x400 at 30fps with 2 gigs it records 30 minutes I believe, which is actually pretty good.

I'm getting one for my brother for christmas so he can tape it to his m16 when he gets deployed to iraq in march.

VGA(640x480)@30fps with 2GB card is actually an hour. Not bad if the image quality is actually decent.

I am considering one of these, even for every day riding. The last few times I have been out riding I have had idiots thinking riding in the same lane as me is cool, including one woman who pulled out of a shopping center right in front of me and nearly killed me. I am still a bit shaken up over that incident, and I actually got to the point of filing a complaint for careless driving. It probably won't do me much good, but after 3 close calls in 30 minutes of riding, enough was enough.

If I had this camera on the bike it should be all the evidence I need. At this point the case is going to turn into a he said/she said and won't go anywhere.

touche.

I agree on taping all your rides. It's digital so just delete it if it was uneventful. I think its a great investment. I just ordered mine.

RTFM = read the fucking manual.
....and I don't know, but thats what the manual says. It's possible that it will work with a larger size, but they probably wont certify it does. I've heard of 8 gig SD cards, but I think the 2 gigs ones are the most common.

Was trying to do a little research last night, but didnt have much luck. They may only have tested the product with cards up to 2GB in size so thats all they can really claim it to work with. SD Cards larger than 2GB may not have been available when they were testing the product... Can't say I even recall seeing a SD card bigger than 2GB.

Would be nice if it did MPEG4, but not sure its ready to go into a product that small at a reasonable price. Might cut the filesize in half or so (double the recording time).

jc, let me know how the image quality is when you get it... :)

how long can you record with the hghest resolution with a 1gb sd card?

do you like it? is it easy to use? pros vs cons?

i leaning towards this also. thanks for the feedback.

I think like an hour. I'll look tonight when I go home. I've only played with it once, the day I got it. Turns out my mom bought my brother the exact same camera and gave it to him before I got mine. So I opened it to check it out. It just sits in my dresser since I bought it. I'll sell it to you for a good price if you want it.
