The BBC is reporting this morning that famed Italian GP champion Max Biaggi signed a contract with Alstare Suzuki on Wednesday of this week, that he will race with the number thirty (Norick 'Yamaha Ride for Life' Abe uses Max's usual #3 in WSBK) and, most tantalizing, Biaggi will test with Corser, Kagayama and Mladin at Phillip Island.
There has been no official word from Suzuki regarding this development.

how similar are the rules for WSBK and AMA? I remember a couple of years ago AMA was faster at Laguna because of tires, but other than that, are superbikes from Europe the same as American, Australian, Japan, etc.?

WSBK rules have been 'looser' than AMA historically. Hell their SS 600s used to have SBK parts all over them! Guess thats where AMA FX sprouted from.
