View Full Version : New exhaust for my RC51

I swapped exhaust systems with someone for a Moriwaki Titanium high mount for my Sato Low Ti low mounts. I knew the Mori's are a bit heavier, but the high mounts look nicer to me now that I had the low mounts on my bike for 2 years.

I took these pics a couple of days ago, my other ride is a 2003 TL-R.

Daydreaming of next spring already.
Happy Holidays,
Ken

Thanks Vin
both bikes sound great, but the TL-R has the RC beat in the sound dept. The TL-R has a slightly deeper sound and has to be heard on the track to be appreciated.
Happy Holidays

Nice Moriwaki cans, never seen them before but they have a very clean look. I'm just curious to know why you stayed with the 2-into-2 instead of the 2-into-1 for the track?

Tell that to Team Honda when they ran a 2-into-1 Jardine Ti. with Miguel & Nicky...and won races. Like I said the bike looks great with a 2-into-2 but you'll also save weight with a 2-into-1.

Yea, because ANY of us(and our bikes) are so at their level...c'mon now...

BTW...just noticed the rear rotor... :pimp:

well none of us are either miguel or nicky so who cares, a twin looks stupid with 2 into 1 ,and thats that, ill take the additions 6 lbs :)

You missed my point, I'm not speaking of riders or the other specifics of the bike's setup, I'm simply comparing the 2-into-2 with a 2-into-1 regarding a pro race team's choice with R&D performance. And what happened to individuality...an RC51 running a 2-into-1 would catch me eye a lot quicker than one running the same two out setup.

Any other "twin" like a TLR might look a bit odd to someone that hasn't seen it run a 2-into-1. Just on a side note, I've seen SV's running 2-into-1 Ti.'s with a nice carbon can and they sound and look badass. I'm sure like anything else, looks grow on people after a short while.

One of the things I enjoy about the twins is the balanced look of the dual exhaust. One might argue individuality is having a v-twin with a single side exhaust, another might be tired of having his TL-R mistaken for a GSXR because of it.
I dont ride to race, not concerned with it, love doing my track days though

Which bike do you like better? By buddy has a Superhawk and is looking at both TLR's and RC51's. Moriwaki looks way better hands down then the Sato's.

Mori makes an excellent product. Check out LDH's exhaust page for some more info on them.

hirevs...man u'r on every bike-related-jersey-connected board i've found lol

couple things:

>that jardine setup on the arceee you were talking about...there's more to the story and it doesn't have much to do w/ jardine if memory serves...i'm not an rc-whore, so the details escape me...but i wouldn't tout that setup as the ultimate solution...unless you're just tryin to be different

>Moriwaki and Sato - i own both and have tried 2 other exhaust setups on my I4 honda; Moris have a nice low rumble at idle and wail nicely at WOT but they don't scream like the Satos

both Mori and Sato make quality parts, if you've inspected the fit and finish...you'll know what i mean, but when compared to some exhausts built in the former eastern bloc or down under or even the brother Erion stuff....Mori and Sato have it figured out (the welds are really somethin special if u'r into that stuff)

Moris are oval - niiiice and have a number of nice finishes, you get nothin but compliments when you're parked at the mall pickin up lil girls :D; power-wise, they give it up to the Satos up top...but they lack the obnoxious sound of the Satos which often causes problems w/ the neighbors or whoever...

Satos - nice large core cans and Sato makes the time to actually dyno tune, test and reconfigure...an example would be the Generation 2 can they produced for the 919 (smaller core, angled and extended tips) after receiving feedback from various owners (yes including LDH)

the finish of the Satos is a love it or leave it thing, a simple Ti wrap and a few rivits (you can get them w/o badges if you happen to know someone) isn't fancy and there's always the chance the rivits will buzz a little, a simple fix...the CF wrap is nice, just not my thing

both Sato and Moriwaki make plenty of stuff besides exhausts...rearsets and the like, expensive quality pieces..but pricey if you plan on bustin them up at the track...better to go w/ woodcraft or something

Dan Kyle can hook you up and so can Bob at BVH, those are the players in the Sato/Mori...you shouldn't be able to beat their pricing, unless you cheese one of them off ;)

check wheeler's page for some good info, just wanted to offer an independent opinion from someone who doesn't bleed sato or fart w/ an a/f ratio of 12.7 to 1 (but i do have a dog named baba-san lol )

i vote keep it 2 it just does more for the deep lovely sound of a v twin :nod2: i love my mutli but its a 2-1-2 just really 2 cans and it don't have nearly as nice of a sound that my Buddy's s2r1000 does running the FBF pipes :(

ur rc-51 looks awesome :boogie:
this site has so much v twin love :lmao:

I love both bikes, I had a 99 TLR which was totalled in 03. I replaced it with the RC51 and last summer I got the itch for another TLR. Last August I picked up a 2003 TLR from Baltimore with low miles and I made the new TLR in to a full time track bike since I have the crashed TLR for spares.

The TLR is much heavier than the RC51, something like 40 pounds heavier in stock trim.
I spent the end of last season and this spring making improvements (spending money) on the TLR in order to get it down in weight and handle better on the track. Hopefully the money was well spent. I will post new pics of the painted TLR on the track day forum. Either way its fun to ride.

As for switching from Sato low mounts to Mori High Mounts, for me it was just about asthetics. The Satos are fill Titanium, the Moris are stainless with Ti cans. Heavier but I liked the loof of the high mounts. I swapped for the Mori's, but otherwise would have opted for a swap for Sato Banzai high mounts instead. I am satisfied with the Mori's though.
