Found this on another site. Who do you think will win?

Looks pretty weak. Stupid race in my opinion

That was stupid. Boats can't win that kind of race.

apples to oranges would be a bike vs a tug boat. They were both "speed" machines, but yeah, they're not the same. It just depends on what level you want to compare them on.

But I'd love to see a katana vs a little bass fishing boat.

Title's the best, "Car vs Boat vs Bike"? Can they be a bit more descriptive? A car is what's sitting in my driveway, that's no car that's a F1 racing mahcine, what kinda bike? What kinda boat?

The boat won't reach over 140mph, and unless the bike's a top fuel drag bike there's no way it's gonna even touch that F1.

Maybe not in this case but I was on a 29 foot skate (racing hull) a few years back with 3 outboard Mercs totaling 900 horsepower. Let me tell you 120mph is damn fast on the water. :wow:

well i had a nice reply all typed up, but something happened... anyway, the bottom line is boats are horribly slow, no matter how fast you think you are going... it always seems like you are giong 2x faster than you really are... i get asked all teh time how fast we are going when i take people out, and they are a little shocked when i tell them "about 40"...

just imagine how slow the f1 or bike would go if they didn't have wheels and you had to drag them on the asphalt....

4500hp and the top speed is only 175mph...

A few bikes do better than that, stock...

Do you know how hard it is and what it takes to actually be able to hit 175 on water. Take a moment and just fathom the idea. A bike sits ontop of the surface in which it rides on, has wheels wich roll pretty easy. A boat is big, heavy, and sits within its surface. Both have to battle aerodynamics, but a boat has alot more drag being in water. And holy crap, speaking of heavy, the boat in that link is +5 tons dry add 1000 gallons of fuel(1 fluid gallon = approx 8-9lbs. I think)...Those powerboats are the MotoGP of bikes. IMHO 175mph on water is pretty damn impressive.

When the ripples in the water become a blur and you're staring at the analog speedo as it reads 120mph, then you glance back at the huge rooster tail kicking up about 15 feet and 30 feet back...you KNOW you're going that fast.

Riding bitch always seems to be faster than it is due to lack of reference especially to non-riders. I've only ridden bitch a few times since I've been riding and it scared the crap outta me.

What's even more interesting is that unlike bikes at high speeds, supercats/skates like that one need that extra weight and drag as well to keep it from becoming a flying wing.

I am not arguing that 175mph isn't impressive.. In fact its exactly what I am saying... However, relative to the car and bike that the boat was raced against, its pretty pathetic. My point is the original comparison had 2 land vehicles and a boat, and there simply is no comparison. Its just silly to even try to race the two, but the tv program did it anyway, because the average person doesnt know any better.

when I think about the hp/lbs ratio of all three and then throw in the huge drag difference for the boat, all of a sudden I'm kinda impressed...
