KAD (http://www.kad-uk.com/homepage.htm) :)

I'm in the process of finding out more information on the mono-block 6-piston calipers they have for the TL. :woot:

Is it more form than function, or function than form?

A non-adjustable triple... It's all about the bling.

I'm just at a point with the TL now where the things I do to it are more for fun than anything.

That's a trick-ass TL.

The 6 piston calipers are overkill IMHO. I have a Wave rotor/6 piston setup. on my TLS. Stops a little too violently for me.

You can use the Gixxer 1K or the Busa Calipers. I found mine in a junk yard. Wanted to have them polished and anodized red but it was kinda expensive. They bolt right on. Not as trick looking as aftermarket stuff but just as good.

Gixxer 1k calipers won't work as the bolt spacing is different. If you look real close at the pic above you'll notice the gold calipers. Those are from a ZX12R, same as the Busa and TLR's. My brake set-up consists of those calipers, EBC HH pads and Goodridge Kevlar lines running to a 04 GSXR750 radial master cylinder.

It stops… Quick. But then it’s gets put to the test and hasn’t failed me yet heading in to turn 1 at Summit (main) after that 3000’ straight. :)

I'm pretty much running with that same set up with the exception of the Wave Rotors.

What are you doing for your rear damper?

Bitubo. Got ride of the need for a seperate damper. Lots of open space there now.

I also use a Bitubo steering damper.

Got the triple on… Talk about a PIA. The lockset had enough red locktite that it became a problem. I ended up only able to back one bolt out a few mm before stripping the inside of the safty-torx’s bit. I ended up cutting the bolt to finish the job. Good thing I have a supply of bolts on hand. Needless to say safty-torx’s wasn’t used.

The new triple is noticeably lighter than the stock bit but (sorry Steve) I don’t have a scale to measure how much. A guess would put it in the 1/2lb range. I had to shorten the threads on the damper mount stud a few mm but that was easy enough. It does have provisions for the clip-on bolts and they’re in the exact location as stock.

Please excuse the mess… I need to clean the bike up.

How are you able to get a full tuck without hitting your helmet on that fairing support cage?

Strange question... Never been a probelm... Most of the early GSXR's and all the TL bikes had the same fairing support concept.

Does the lower triple ever get swapped out too, or just the upper?

The lower triple gets swapped out when going to an adjustable front end. A number of companies make a fully adjustable set to alter the rake and trail of the front. For a street bike like mine a set like that is a little over kill. You can buy a set of non-adjustable triples but if your spending that sort of cash might as well get something you can play with.

The track bike I’m planning on building is another story… :naughty:

Ok, gotchya...reason I ask is I take it the upper tipple gets swapped not only for bling factor, but to shed a lil weight...figure swapping out the lower would help shed more weight too.

ah that's crap... you're not gonna see a big weight reduction... I view this kind of swap more for strength. In some cases so you have more room to play with front end height. Of course a third factor is always the droool factor...
