I have a question for you, experts out there :wave2: Cops are EVERYWHERE! I am sick and tired of slowing down. So, I am looking for a good solution to that problem...a good radar detector, that really works and easy to read while you're in motion. Any advice on that will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it's hard to get a real good one. Cops have a wide variety of ways to get your speed, through different radar bands, laser, and timing. A radar detector isn't good unless the cop shoots it at someone in front of you and the signal "scatters". So if you're the first person in line, you're probably gonna get "shot" at, and there will be no warning until it is too late. Also automatic door openers at stores and stuff set off the detectors, so if you live in a highly populated area, it isn't advisable to have one on, it'll drive you crazy. whenever you go fast, you are taking a risk of getting a ticket.
What I want to know is, how good do those "stealth" things work?

this subject has been beat to death over on the busa board. do your research and be an informed consumer. on top of that, i'd say educate yourself in where the cops like to hide. blind turns, corners, hills, bridge abutments, medians with foliage. and of course, be on the lookout for those tell tale tire marks/dead spots where their cars are always hiding.
the 2 detectors that people seem to swear by are the valentine 1 and the passport escort 8500.

this last site is a good site to surf. unfortunately the tester, craig peterson has come under fire for his testing methods and bias towards a name brand.

No radar detector in the world will save you from gettin hit with "instant on."

be an alert driver and pay attention.. your best radar detector are the brake lights of the cars ahead of you... this is not foolproof, but ive found to be a much better option than a radar detector, especially on highways where nj state police love to use instant on..

Very true....but if he tags a car ahead of you the detector may just give you enough time to slow down and avoid the ticket.

+1 for the Escort 8500. The Bel RX65 is another excellent unit. Both are now being made by the same company.

i suppose it wouldn't have really. although i'm thinking he had radar on to actually get me. he said he paced me for 7 miles on rt 78. which is untrue. i came up on him. state trooper, SUV, near exit 12. he got off and then got back on the highway on the same exit. i saw him coming up hard on me and knew i was sunk. so i pulled over. 7 miles of pacing me? come on.....
my point was, that had i spent that $ on a detector, i still would have been better off then "donating" to the corrupt union twp court

pacing you 7 miles seems a little ridiculous, but it doesnt matter.. they only need to pace you for a "moment".

the only thing to ask yourself is "was i speeding?".

we all know its a load of crap, and while 99% of us speed (some to a lesser degree than others), we all know its a risk we take because we can be pulled over at any given time for it.. its a game of russian roulette... our whole legal system is retarded because people are breaking the laws all day every day, and yet the laws are only enforced when its convenient, when quotas need to be met, when a complaint is made, and/or when you are being profiled.

visual awareness of the brakelights ahead of you still seems like the best method to avoid tickets, as long as its a moderately populated highway... but that would require to pay more attention to their surroundings and not their cellphones. :jerkit:

Being aware of your surroundings is the best thing. Then again in the last week my Bel Pro alerted me to radarat least 5sec prior to being able to be scanned and in those 5 sec each time I dropped my speeds enough to be 'legal'.
