MILLVILLE -- The N.J. Motorsports Park received another technical stamp of approval Monday night.
The Planning Board accepted its staff's recommendation that the site plan application for the motor-themed resort is ready for review.
The unanimous decision sets up a critical special board meeting Nov. 14 where officials will consider preliminary and final approval for the park.
The motorsports park is planned for 707 acres at Millville Airport along Buckshutem Road. Its centerpiece is the 4.1-mile road course to be known as Thunderbolt Raceway. It also would have industrial, commercial, tourist and educational components.
The overall value of the park, which will be completed in phases and may open in late spring 2007, is estimated at $100 million. Officials have said it could create 1,500 jobs and bring in millions of tourist dollars annually.
In Millville, major projects such as the motorsports park require an extraordinary level of review at the municipal planning level.
Officials must deem the project applications "complete" before the merits of the proposal are considered. That's the step they took Monday regarding the motorsports resort's site plan.
